What Profhilo is

Profhilo carries one of the highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid available in an injectable. Unlike a dermal filler it is not designed to add structural volume. It spreads laterally through the skin from a small number of set injection points and stimulates the skin to produce its own collagen and elastin.

The result is a change in skin quality rather than facial shape: firmer, better hydrated skin with fine lines and laxity softened. It is one of the treatments Dr Harriet recommends most often to patients who want to look fresher without looking different.

What to expect from a Profhilo course

Consultation & preparation

Avoid alcohol for 24 hours and ibuprofen, aspirin, vitamin E and fish oil for 48 hours beforehand where it is safe to stop them, to reduce bruising. Come makeup-free and well hydrated, since Profhilo works by dispersing through the tissue.

What is Profhilo and how is it different from filler?

Both are hyaluronic acid, but they behave in opposite ways. A dermal filler is a cohesive gel designed to stay where it is placed and create volume. Profhilo is designed to spread through the tissue and act biologically, prompting the skin to make more of its own collagen and elastin. Fillers change where the skin sits; Profhilo changes how the skin works.

What does the treatment involve?

Consultation first, where Dr Harriet assesses your skin and confirms Profhilo is the right choice for what is bothering you. The product is then delivered through a small series of injections beneath the surface of the skin, placed at defined points that maximise how far the product spreads while keeping clear of major vessels. It stings a little and takes roughly 15 to 30 minutes.

When will I see results?

Over the weeks following treatment you will notice a gradual improvement in skin texture and firmness as collagen and elastin production increases. This is not an immediate-result treatment. The standard course is two sessions four to six weeks apart, and the full effect is assessed several weeks after the second session rather than after the first.

Where else can Profhilo be used?

The face is the most common area, but Profhilo is used on the neck and hands for the same skin-quality effect, and there is a dedicated body formulation for larger areas such as the arms, abdomen and thighs. Neck and hands are popular additions for patients already treating the face, because both often show age earlier.

Aftercare

The small injection bumps settle within 24 to 48 hours. Avoid pressure, massage and makeup on the treated area for 12 hours, and skip saunas, steam rooms, intense exercise and alcohol for 24 hours. Skin quality improves gradually over the following weeks.

How long does Profhilo last?

Many patients see the benefit for up to six months or more, with results gradually improving over the weeks after the second session. Most repeat the course twice a year to maintain the collagen and elastin stimulation. With consistent maintenance the effect tends to build rather than simply reset each time.

Will Profhilo change the shape of my face?

No. That is the main difference between Profhilo and a dermal filler. It spreads through the skin rather than sitting in one place, so it improves quality, hydration and firmness without adding structural volume. Patients who want to look fresher without looking altered are the ideal candidates.

Is there any downtime after Profhilo?

Very little. Small raised bumps are visible at each injection point immediately afterwards and settle within 24 to 48 hours as the product spreads. Some patients experience mild bruising. Most return to their daily activities straight after the appointment.

How many sessions of Profhilo do I need?
