The short answer

What anti-wrinkle injections are

Dr Harriet Turnbull is highly experienced in treatments to soften wrinkles for a refreshed appearance. She has deep knowledge of anatomy and how to create bespoke treatment plans for her patients.

Anti-wrinkle injections use small injections to soften lines and wrinkles and balance muscle function in both the face and neck, resulting in a natural freshening of the face and improved skin elasticity. They provide a refresh for the whole face but are particularly effective for the upper face.

Treatment typically lasts 3 to 6 months but varies between patients. Her approach is deliberately conservative: the aim is a face that looks rested rather than treated, which means dosing to your anatomy rather than to a standard chart.

What can be treated?

Anti-wrinkle injections work on lines made by movement, and on muscles that are doing more work than they should. They do not add volume, so a hollow or a shadow needs a different treatment.

Patient journey

What to expect from anti-wrinkle injections

Consultation & preparation

Avoid alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment, and ibuprofen, aspirin, vitamin E and fish oil for 48 hours where it is safe for you to stop them, since all of these increase the chance of bruising. Come with a clean face if you can.

During treatment

Aftercare

Stay upright for four hours and avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas. Skip strenuous exercise, alcohol, saunas and steam rooms for 24 hours. Movement begins to soften from day three to five, and the result should be judged at day fourteen rather than in the first week.

Anti-wrinkle injection prices in London

Every appointment includes your consultation, the treatment itself and written aftercare. An area means one treated region of the face, so the price depends on how many you have on the day rather than on how much product is used.

Anti-wrinkle injection FAQs

Will I still be able to make expressions?

Yes. Dr Harriet doses conservatively so that movement softens rather than stops, because a face that cannot move is the most obvious sign that someone has had treatment. You will still frown, smile and raise your brows. The lines those movements create will simply be less deeply etched.

How long do anti-wrinkle injections last?

Most patients hold their result for three to six months. The exact window depends on muscle strength, metabolism and how expressive you are. Patients who treat consistently often find the muscle weakens over time and the interval between appointments stretches out, which means fewer treatments per year.

Is there any downtime?

Essentially none. You may notice small bumps, slight redness or minor swelling at the injection points immediately afterwards, and these usually settle within a few hours. Most patients return to normal activities straight away. Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol and excessive heat for the rest of the day.

Are anti-wrinkle injections painful?

Most patients find the treatment minimally painful. Dr Harriet uses fine needles and a gentle technique, and each injection is a brief sting lasting a second or two. No numbing cream is normally needed for the upper face. She will discuss pain management with you at your consultation if you are anxious about it.

When should I start having treatment?

When lines you only used to see in movement start to linger at rest. For most patients that is the mid-thirties to early forties, though genetics, sun exposure and skin type all shift the timing. Dr Harriet will tell you honestly if she thinks you do not need treatment yet.
