What to expect from a polynucleotide course

Consultation & preparation

Avoid alcohol for 24 hours and ibuprofen, aspirin, vitamin E and fish oil for 48 hours beforehand where it is safe to stop them. Come makeup-free. Tell Dr Harriet at consultation if you have any fish allergy, since the product is salmon-derived.

How do polynucleotides work?

The injected fragments act as a signal to the skin rather than as a volumising gel. They stimulate the cells that produce collagen and elastin, improve the skin’s ability to hold water, and calm the low-grade inflammation behind redness and post-inflammatory pigmentation. The change is in the quality of the tissue itself, which is why it develops over weeks rather than appearing immediately.

Why does Dr Harriet use them under the eyes?

The under-eye is one of the most requested areas and one of the hardest to treat well. The skin there is thin and unforgiving, and dermal filler placed badly shows immediately. Polynucleotides improve the quality of that skin without adding volume, which softens fine lines, dark circles and a generally tired appearance. For patients with more significant hollowness, Dr Harriet combines them with dermal filler and finds the two work extremely well together.

How many sessions will I need?

A course of two to three treatments is recommended. The sessions are spaced a few weeks apart, and results build across the course rather than peaking after the first appointment. Additional areas can be treated in the same session. Dr Harriet will set out the plan and total cost at your consultation so there are no surprises.

Aftercare

Small injection marks, mild swelling or occasional bruising generally settle within 24 to 72 hours. Avoid makeup on the treated area for 12 hours and skip saunas, steam rooms, intense exercise and alcohol for 24 hours. Improvement builds over the weeks following each session.
